AiAD Studio

From an idea to parts and a price, on one desk.

AiAD Studio is a standalone application for designing folded sheet-metal pieces. It holds the whole line in one window: imagine a piece, stand it in a 3D room, break it into parts a shop can make, check every part, and price the job. Everything it makes is kept in a library, work by work.

The line

Six stops, in the order a piece takes them.

  1. ImagineA sentence becomes a sketch; a sketch becomes a 3D form. Or bring your own model (OBJ, STL).
  2. MeasureWhat the form really is: its size, its faces, where it is flat and where it bends.
  3. ReduceThousands of triangles become the flat panels the piece wants to be made of.
  4. PanelizePanels become parts. A part ends only where its blank would overlap, outgrow the sheet, or fold tighter than a brake can reach. Each part gets its cut file and bend lines.
  5. CheckEvery cut file proven to close and cut; every blank big enough for its part; every gauge one the shop stocks.
  6. PriceThe job line by line, the sheets it will use, the bolts it needs.

Every work stands in a 3D room. Turn it, light it, pick a part, fold it flat and back. The same room runs in your browser today: open the engine room and drop a STEP file.

Where it stands, honestly

The room, checking, proving and pricing are in daily use in the studio. The road from an idea to parts — reduce, panelize, make solids — works and is still being taught; early-access users walk it with us.

Exporting a finished work needs Autodesk Inventor on the same computer (see AiAD for Inventor). Imagining, viewing, checking and pricing do not.
